The St. Regis Hotel is a historic hotel built in the 1960s with a bit of controversy. During the height of contemporary architecture, the St. Regis was built in an old-world style. To their own description: “Built in 1966 Hotel St. Regis stood above the rest in grandeur and elegance in the heart of New Center. Ebony oak wood and imported French molding decorated the vintage old-world style decor and was quickly designated the ‘Gem of Detroit’ by Detroiters and visitors alike.
As a Detroit restaurant serving New Orleans-style entrees, the restaurant’s design is a cross between a French Quarter bistro with its classic French styling and a no-nonsense gritty yet elegant modern Detroit venue. This white tablecloth restaurant was to have been a bustling night spot with a large bar, evening entertainment with a small stage, and a New Orleans riff. The restaurant has a club atmosphere with a very public bar area including private lockers for wine and liquor collections. The dining and bar areas were styled with classic mosaic tile patterns and simple metal features reflecting the French Quarter style and the Owner’s art selections that speak to Louisiana’s festive and unique color and atmosphere. The designers truly crafted to enhance the unique and cultural fusion.
