The 15,000-square-foot addition to the Lipke Recreation Center, owned by the City of Detroit and leased to SAY Detroit Play Center, marks a significant investment in the educational future of Detroit’s youth. Operated by SAY Detroit, a nonprofit umbrella of charities founded by Mitch Albom, this transformative project is anchored by the Kelly and Matthew Stafford & Friends Education Center, which enhances the center’s after-school tutoring and extracurricular programming.

The expansion includes:

  • Six new classrooms
  • Two state-of-the-art learning labs
  • A versatile black box auditorium
  • Dedicated administrative offices

These thoughtfully designed spaces create an inspiring environment that supports academic development, creative expression, and focused learning. The addition provides students with a place to grow, explore, and thrive while furthering SAY Detroit’s mission to offer meaningful opportunities for youth enrichment and education.
