Bert Walker Hall Renovation + Addition
Client: Jackson College
Location: Jackson, Michigan
Size: 57,000 sf renovation; 30,000 sf addition
Originally built in 1971, Bert Walker Hall was the last of Jackson College’s oldest buildings to be updated. Its renovation to replace aging infrastructure and addition to accommodate increased student enrollment and enhanced programming has transformed the almost 50-year old structure into the college’s new front door.
Designed with a governing vision to enhance student services support, Walker Hall is a welcoming and reaffirming thread in campus life as student access to new and renovated classrooms, learning spaces, admission and registration functions, developmental education, counseling, disabilities support, and advising is now available in one central location.
The building’s new, north side facade visually accents and anchors the building as the main entrance to campus. The south facade’s transformation into a new entrance facing the campus green/courtyard enhances pedestrian connectivity throughout the campus and to student services and academic support programs.
