BIOGRAPHY

Aaron Vermeulen is an Architect with over 12 years experience; He has experience in new construction, adaptive re-use, large scale rehabilitation, mixed-use housing, institutional planning, and two significant island projects with intricate island access logistics in North Haven, Maine and Mackinac Island, Michigan.

"Preserve our past and respect our time, great design is not about style but integrity in both design and construction."

As the son of a Dutch watchmaker, Mr. Vermeulen learned early in life that the difference is in the detail. His early years had a strong impact on his professional career, and his approach to architecture contains a special emphasis on materials and how they work within a larger building system.

Mr. Vermeulen started his career studying metallurgy, and his studies have taken him to California, Michigan and the Netherlands. Over the past decade, he has designed buildings in concrete, wood, steel and recently completed the design and construction administration of a new pre-cast engineering building for the University of Michigan in Dearborn, Michigan.

Mr. Vermeulen has noteworthy expertise in the design and construction of green roofs, masonry cladding systems, and in high performance building envelopes in cold climates. His project roles have included both project architect and project management.
