McLaren Engineering Headquarters

Client: Linamar Corporation
Location: Livonia, Michigan
Size: 90,000 sf

McLaren had been operating out of the same, two-building engineering facility in Livonia since it was built in 1969. Following a merger with the global manufacturing company Linamar Corporation, McLaren began planning for a renovation and addition that would transform the space into a state-of-the-art technology, sales, and engineering center to accommodate continued growth and consolidation with its sales office in Southfield.

Working with Linamar, McLaren and Tacoma Engineering, O|X Studio refined the office and manufacturing center’s program and overall design with an interior and exterior ‘hi-tech’ aesthetic treatment to convey the innovative and progressive nature of Linamar.  The project involved demolition of portions of one of the existing buildings and renovation of approximately 18,000 sf of its interior and development of a new, attached three-story building with 26,000 sf of high-bay manufacturing and 46,000 sf of multi-story office space that accommodates multiple departments with varied requirements.

Key to the project’s success was the development of a phased construction schedule that would accommodate the facility’s need to maintain engineering and manufacturing operations during the demolition, renovation, and construction of the addition.
